[2019/11/01] Celebrating the 20thAnniversary of the National Yang-Ming Incubator Center

National Yang-Ming University Incubator Center was established in 1999 and was the first center in Taiwan targeting especially the fields of medical and biological technology. Over the past 20 years, it has received recognition from industry and has for Taiwan won the highest number of “Asian Association of Business Incubation Awards”. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the NYMU Incubator Center held a grand celebration tea party on October 4th and invited businesses started by students and teachers from NYMU to share their stories.

Since 1997, the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economy Affairs, has promoted the establishment of incubation centers to help the development of small and medium enterprises and now there are over 160 incubator centers in Taiwan. The NYMU Incubator Center has received funding from the Ministry of Economy Affairs for the past 20 years and has successfully cultivated many startups, at the moment the number exceeds 130 businesses.

 

Among these are three businesses founded by NYMU teachers and students, specifically “SuperLab” founded by Professor Tsai from the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, “Acamed Pharma and Biotech” founded by Professor Wu of the Institute of Biopharmaceutical Sciences, and “BENED Biomedical” founded by Professor Tsai of the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

“NYMU Incubator” has become a brand in the past 20 years and is thought of as a highly reputable incubator center. It has continued to promote the entrepreneurial spirit as well as cooperation between industry and universities, so that academics are able to apply their research in industry. The result is that NYMU Incubator has become a pathway between the biomedical industry and biomedical research.

 

“SuperLab”, “Acamed Pharma and Biotech Co., Ltd,” and “BENED Biomedical” were invited to the ceremony to share their adventures while starting a business in the biotechnology field and all of the guests learned that this process was not easy in the beginning.
