Dr. Ying-Ying Yang Receives the 2012 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award of National Science Council.

The National Science Council announced the winners of 2012 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award and Dr. Ying-Ying Yang, faculty of our university, is one of them.

The main research interests of Dr. Ying-Ying Yang's team are the pathophysiology of the clinical complications of hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis-induced chronic liver injury and liver cirrhosis. Dr. Yang group's discovered that neurohormonal and genetic polymorphisms testing might allow identification of cirrhotic patients benefiting from the addition of clonidine to diuretics for treatment of refractory ascites. Furthermore, they found the roles of endotoxemia, endocannabinoids system and hyperlieptinemia in the evolution of liver and heart complications of cirrhosis. Accordingly, the therapeutic strategy targeting on these systems might improved the survivals of cirrhotic patients suffered from variceal bleeding and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.

Dr. Yang said that she is excited to receive this award and want to express gratitude to the constant support of her colleges of Yang-Ming University and Taipei Veteran General Hospital. In the future, she will continue to devote on exploring more therapeutic modalities to improve the health and quality of life of patients with cirrhosis and chronic liver injury.
