Dr. Shuen-Iu Hung Receives the 2012 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award of National Science Council.

The National Science Council announced the winners of 2012 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award and Dr. Shuen-Iu Hung, faculty of the Institute of Pharmacology of School of Medicine, is one of them.

Dr. Shuen-Iu Hung's main research interest is drug hypersensitivity. Drug hypersensitivity is an important clinical problem. It has diverse manifestations, such as urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, skin eruptions, drug hypersensitivity syndrome, bullous skin reactions, etc. Dr. Hung's team has identified that different types of drug hypersensitivity have various genetic predisposition, and genetic tests before prescribing the drugs are effectively to prevent several kinds of drug hypersensitivity reactions. Dr. Hung's team has identified granulysin as the key immune mediator of bullous adverse skin reactions. Her team also discovered the shared and restricted T-cell receptors usage, and specific HLA alleles possessing higher affinity towards some drugs and initiating the drug hypersensitivity reactions.

Dr. Hung would like to thank all students and research assistants in the lab, and keep going to implement personalized medicine, uncover the immune mechanism, and develop new therapeutic approaches for drug hypersensitivity.
