NYMU sign MOU with Massachusetts General Hospital

 

The Vice President of Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Richard Bringhurst and President of National Yang-Ming University, Dr. Yan-Hwa Wu Lee sign MOU at Boston, April 15th, 2009. Signing this MOU is another milestone for Yang-Ming University. It is very important for the physician scientist program and research collaborations between MGH and NYMU in the future. Through this agreement, the students of NYMU can not only apply to do the research in MGH but also share the same rights and treatments with the students of MGH.

 

Massachusetts General Hospital is the third oldest general hospital in the United States, and the oldest and largest in New England. Its achievement is evident to all. The hospital has 905 beds and admits over 45,000 patients each year. The surgical staff performs over 34,000 operations yearly. In 2007, Massachusetts General Hospital was even ranked 5th overall from among 5,432 medical centers. Yang-Ming University was established in 1975. Initially it was a medical college aimed at producing medical doctors to be sent to the rural area of Taiwan.

 

During the past decade, it has expanded and became a general university with 6 schools. Yang-Ming University is committed to produce the next generation of talents with global vision and international perspectives. According to QS the Times ranking in 2008, Yang-Ming University was among the top three universities in Taiwan. Besides, the quality and quantity of research papers produced by the faculties of NYMU have surpassed all the other universities in Taiwan in many areas including neurosciences, genomic medicine, stem cell research and nursing. The affiliated hospital in Yi-Lan and the teaching hospital in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung cities not only provide high-quality medical services, but also serve as the centers for medical research and education. After signing this MOU with MGH, NYMU also offer an opportunity for students of Taiwan to advance their ability and equip them with global vision.
